Halloween is just around the corner. Exposure to sugar can cause tooth decay in children. Candy is a “sometimes” treat. Limit your child’s consumption of candy, sugary drinks, and food, especially those that can remain stuck in the teeth after eating. Thorough brushing after eating candy can help reduce deleterious effects of sugar on teeth too. Be safe — kids of Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa — trick-or-treating this Halloween season!

Flossing is important to your home oral health care. Many neglect this aspect of oral hygiene. By flossing once a day, you mitigate your risk of gum disease and interproximal decay. Flossing removes plaque and debris that adheres to gums and teeth. We recommend using an up and down motion, forming a “C” on the side of each tooth. Avoid side to side motion which can damage your gums. We generally recommend Glide floss at Gentle Dental Care in Maryville, MO. Our hygienists are always willing to help improve your home oral health care.

The ideal time is six months after your child’s primary (baby) teeth erupt or by the child’s first birthday. This time frame is the perfect opportunity for our team to examine the development of your child’s mouth. We may even provide or recommend special preventive care to mitigate oral health problems. At Gentle Dental Care in Maryville, MO, we offer comprehensive dental care to your whole family.
